Friends.....

Yesterday, I went to the institute. Why? that even I don’t know. It was just that I was thinking about the past year I spent there, studying, playing, wandering, chatting with friends…. and my feet automatically marched towards the cab going there. Even it is only 2 months when we last met, but still it was quite a blissful experience to meet friends in the hostel. The first person I met was the friend from Indonesia. I greeted her but to my surprise she didn’t reacted. Later I realized she is the twin sister of her who is also joining IMI as our junior. It was quite embarrassing, but a funny instance as I was trying to get her memory back and explaining her who I am thinking her as my batch mate J. Next I surprised my friends in their rooms by my sudden presence.  We discussed a lot of things, our projects, electives, and of course girls at our respective places. We enjoyed watching some clips of Hum-Tum on the laptop of one of the buddies. He also showed me their clips from their recent visit to Mussorie & Corbett park. After that I went to the Amphi. Sitting there I realized how much I missed this precious moment. I also met with an IIM A guy residing there for his summers. While on my way home I started thinking the value of friends in one’s life. Overwhelmed with the feeling I came across the following short verse while surfing the net and thought to share it with you all. So here it goes,

"Just as a wave is lifted by the shore,
Then breaks across the slowly rising sand,
So as I watch you weep my feelings pour
Across the wash of what I understand.
I wish I could just take you in my arms
And all your pain could melt into my chest,
And all the violence of passing storms
Could pass through me and finally come to rest.
No words can set things right or presence lend
A miracle to light your darkened way,
But there is solace in a loving friend
And comfort in what I don't have to say.
Whatever circumstance you cannot bear,
Just turn to me, and you will find me there

Internship - My Views

(Warning: This one is Serious J). According to the web definition of Internship, “It is a part-time job during the academic year or the summer months in which you receive supervised practical training in your field. Internships are often very closely related to your academic and career goals, and may help make it easier to gain professional employment.” According to me it is not only closely related to one’s goals but also some times facilitate in finding what one’s goals are? Taking our example, we before going to our respective summer projects were unconvinced about our prospective specialization. But now I realized that we are much clearer, which way we want our life to shape out. Also it is the first corporate exposure for us and all are enjoying it to the fullest. Everybody trying for a PPO!! (Height of Optimism).  Still it is not impossible. Many of the seniors have realized their dreams of getting the PPO. Even if one does not get a PPO, still he/she can get the experience of a lifetime. As regards to me I’m getting the experience not only in the work I do but also understanding the work culture and knowing the people here (Above all, getting the moolah too!!)

However looking at the other side of the coin, I have realized that most of the organization takes the interns just for the sake of taking them (rather satisfying the wants of public relations). Most of these organizations neither have a need for a trainee nor do they have a suitable project. This robs the respective trainee from the golden experience that he could have gained working for a project that actually helps the organization in achieving its goals. One can do little about it and thus he/ she can spend his/her time trying to learn the organization culture and the work that goes around them.

I think unlike me I have got much serious, so not boring you any more I am ending this post with some quotes I found interesting:

§         There is nothing training cannot do. Nothing is above its reach. It can turn bad morals to good; it can destroy bad principles and recreate good ones; it can lift men to angelship. - Mark Twain

§         Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results. - John Dewey

§         The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn - Alvin Toffler

§         Don't just learn the tricks of the trade. Learn the trade. - James Benni

§         The only kind of learning which significantly influences behavior is self-discovered or self-appropriated learning - truth that has been assimilated in experience. - Carl Rogers

§         What I hear, I forget. What I see, I remember. What I do, I understand. – Confucius

§         The master shook his head. "I could answer your questions but I won't try because you wouldn't understand the answer. Now listen. Imagine that I am holding a pot of tea, and you are thirsty. You want me to give you tea. I can pour tea but you'll have to produce a cup. I can't pour the tea on your hands or you'll get burnt. If I pour it on the floor I shall spoil the floor mats. You have to have a cup. That cup you will form in yourself by the training you will receive here." - Janwillem Van de Wetering, The Empty Mirror

The Flashback....

Being overwhelmed with Modesty, firstly I thought of dropping the idea of the Flashback (How can I praise myself all the time?). But on popular demand (actually, no demand L
) today I am opening the leaves of my life (I’m a great Autobiographer, you see!). So here, my Super hit Film begins:

Here comes the Hero:
I was dropped on this beautiful earth on 9th October 1982 as the first child in a middle class family. Being the lone baby in the small locality of eight houses, I was a pampered boy. My charisma (Hey don’t laugh. Indeed I’ve charisma) can be sensed from the fact that almost all the females there, wrestled occasionally to win an hour with me (I’m a Superstar!!). So you can see, my current female following is not a fluke J. However I was an extremely shy person (in other word a perfect gentleman. Oops!! rather a gentle child). I was reasonable in studies as well as in sports. In short, even today I can term myself as ‘Jack of all trades, Master of none’. Anyways I managed to get satisfactory marks in my school and came Delhi for my graduation.

Hero turning into Side Hero:
Up till now I had gained enough popularity as the Star Postman (yes, you’ve read it correct a Postman). The matter was that I was the typical Side Hero (i.e. Hero’s Friend) of Bollywood carrying love letters of my friends to the chicks and taking back the replies (either a Rose or a Sandal). Once fed up of all this, I wrote my name instead of my friend on the letter and that marked the end of my tenure as the Postman. None, afterwards, dare to ask me to deliver his letter (Dost dost na raha, Pyaar pyaar na raha….).

Kahaani main twist
: As the time progressed I turned into a typical Introvert as no one took me seriously thanks to my childish appearance (Please don’t get emotional. Wo Kya hai na ki meri twacha se meri umr ka pata hi nahin chalta). But seriously speaking it affected me a lot as everyone around seemed to me as making sarcastic remarks on me. However, I constantly tried to get over this schizophrenia by making them all my friends. And as a result today I can boast of a descent friends circle.

Struggle
: When I came to Delhi, I was unaware of the hardships of the life. With graduation, my struggle began as I constantly shuttled between my college to internship, then to coaching and finally reaching home after almost fourteen hours. But after the initial hiccups I started to enjoy my life as I found some lifelong friends both in my college as well as in my office (where I was doing internship as a C.A. student).

Happy Ending:
Finally I’m here at IMI, doing my Post Graduate Program in management, learning to manage people as well as their money (Love to do that). Here I’ve met with people with diverse backgrounds and soon realized that my mental level is more or less equivalent to them (i.e. I am not the only DUFFER in the world J).  Seriously speaking some are university toppers and many from some of the top-notch institutes in India. Still many of them have a heart of gold and I’m thoroughly enjoying my stay with them at IMI.

Regards.

(P.S.: Anybody impressed with the storyline and wanting to make a movie on above lines can contact me for Royalty discussions. Also I can consider doing the title role if paid descent moolah).

Kuch to Dasso....

Its me, myself.....

Hi World....

Inspired by lots of blog entries and being surrounded by some of the greatest writers and poets of all times, here I am with a blog of my own where I can share my thoughts, my ideas, my point of views and my jokes with you all (and seriously you can’t help it, after all its MY BLOG J). Mind you, some can be absolutely weird, some can be highly intellectual (Impressed anyone!!) and some can be the height of insaneness but that’s exactly what I am.

Moral warning: Before writing any further, I should tell you that here you’ll find lot of iTALICISED text in parenthesis. Please do ignore it or else you’ll keep scratching your HEAD abusing me. (Poor me!)

Being my first blog entry I should take the onus to introduce myself. I am Rahul Jain a 22 year young (why people write ‘old’) cute looking (fed up of this word but can’t help it) and a highly introvert guy yet with a good sense of humor (you’ll discover it as the time passes by, in fact I’ll be able to discover is too by then) and yes with a descent female following (looks nice to write, anyway who is coming to check it) from a small sub-urban town of Modinagar. The only passion in my life is music, I love singing as well as trying my luck on musical instruments. In views of my friends I’m a child at heart (my face reflects my heart feelings a lot). As I’ve said earlier I have a descent friend’s circle and seriously speaking one thing is for sure that I am not at all choosy about my friends. They are just like ‘the good things’ that happen to me. I simply get attached with people as I spent time with them.

As regards to my educational background I did my graduation from Delhi University (the degree certificate says ‘Honors degree in Commerce’). Currently I am doing my C.A. Final along with M.B.A. from International Management Institute, India and HOPING to clear both (See, I told you na.., I’m an intelligent guy). I’m presently doing my summer internship at G.E. Consumer Finance as a process analyst (simply stating it involves copying the earlier process flowcharts, giving them a new look i.e. giving my personal touch to them and taking printouts of the new ones and guys knowing me can tell you that I am an expert in that). Well, I think that’s enough of my description otherwise I can write pages describing or rather praising myself (Humbleness, another good quality in me).

In the next few days you’ll find, in this blog, a necessary ingredient of every odd Bollywood flicks. NO not   Sex or Shahrukh Khan, it is FLASHBACK. So, in the next few entries you’ll join me for a journey starting from my childhood, the school-college experiences and to the current ME.  I am also starting two additional sections with it viz. 1) What, Why and How???? and 2) My Current Brainwave. The first section will encompass the weirdest question for the week and the second section will enable you all to read my mind and let you know what is in my current thought process.  Will eagerly wait for your responses….

Till then Enjoy blogging….
